I have a random pipe that is a bit rusty and looks like it has never been connected to anything.  I haven't been able to trace where it goes other than into the inner-wing and (probably) into some sort of sensor for the cat??

It looks like its never been connected - is that possible?  (car runs fine without it connected too)

What is the number on the tag? Will give a clue as to what build the carb is off as there is no indication as to where that hose is attached.

As the title suggests I think that pipe is by the Carb not connected to it...

There are 3 basic connections to the Carb.

1 - FUEL INLET PORT
2 - FLOAT CHAMBER OVERFLOW/BREATER
3 - CRANKCASE BREATHER PIPE CONNECTION

which you Carb pic appears to show

From that pic its not clear where that pipe goes or what it is for... can you show us the other end?

It looks to me like it has the remains of a snapped off stub in the end of it.

Could it have been connected to the original air filter, to operate a cold/hot air flap.

It looks like the servo take off. I can't see the banjo on the inlet manifold though.

How are the brakes?

Servo is connected fine. The hose the OP is holding looks like a take off pipe of some kind

Any chance it’s a car with a charcoal filter?
All connections on the carb seem to be attached anyway. Follow the trail and let us know! ;)

The float vent does seem to be going off to where an evaporative loss canister would be & there is a suspicious looking join in the  PCV hose about where  its end would reach.

The car has the charcoal filter on the breather system

So I have traced the pipe and it does indeed go to the Emissions Device/Charcoal Filter under the left hard front wing.  See the picture below.  I do not know where the loose end should go? Can anyone help?  I have looked but cannot see an obvious place......

Any chance it broke off the the white connector here?

Thats where it should go anyway. If someone ever replaced the white connector with a joiner instead of a T piece, you can just fit a T piece again and make the car stock.
