Hi guys,

Is anyone here running a large bore LCB and able to check their ground clearance for me please?

I've got a Mini here with one fitted and the ground clearance with a 1-7/8" maniflow twin box system is poor, particularly at the y-piece and join to the exhaust.

To put some numbers to it...

The Y-piece is only 74mm off the ground.
The underside of my clamp onto the exhaust is 52mm.
The front sill height is 215mm.

Admittedly the car is sitting a bit too low anyway and the 10" wheels don't help. The whole car could be lifted increasing the 215mm to more like 230-240mm but the manifold does seem to hang very low anyway.

Is anyone able to measure their clearance and sill height to compare to mine please?

Which part number is it? They do make a few different large bore manifolds.

Take a look underneath andcheck how close the Y-piece is to the body. Ideally the minimum clearance should be no more than 1/2" and it is normally a bit less than that.
With all the road humps and sped cushions around these days it is easy to damage the exhaust if the pipes and silencers are too close to the ground.

I'm 99% sure it is the LM005. Its definitely not any kind of stage 2 or 3 modern version with the larger diameter centre branch.

I'll have a look at the floor clearance later this evening. I think there is more than 0.5" clearance but need to double check.

I think you've identified your real problem, the car is too low. Raise it up again and all those issues pretty much go away. I know "slammed" is the style everyone aspires to today... I prefer a good ride and being able to pull into my drive without dragging anything.

That's interesting and very useful Nick, as I understand it, the CLM is the competition version which is lifted as high as possible for maximum ground clearance.

This one does not look anything like as tight to the floor/tunnel. The gap between the Y-piece and the brake pipe shown in this pic is about 18-20mm to give you some idea.

I have to say that my old 1995 year medium LCB was not far off what this one is. Mine have always been close to the floor.

Maybe they've pulled them up a bit higher in recent years. This one is a 1999/2000 vintage!

My one before that was similarly positioned is older than yours.

Similar to your current one, or sitting low like my photo Nick?

Any LCB's I've ever had have had a tendency to be too close to the tunnel, but they were probably cheapo no name ones from the 80's. Had a Janspeed standard bore LCB that fitted perfectly.
Been running a maniflow largebore long 3 into 1 since 1990 that sits high and snug like Nick's but with the centre pipe coming in beneath the two outer pipes.I think that's got just over 2" of ground clearance and my ground to front sill height is 185mm.
