Hello everyone! In my 1275cc engine I have a twin Hs2 carb that I bought second-hand and of unknown origin, the breather holes are different.

On the left side, the hole float lid is big as this one (pic).



On the right side, the hole has a much smaller diameter. Maybe less than half.



Is this ok for a good performance?

the big one probably had a pipe in it.the small ones I have have a metal cover over them,rubbish could get in.Steve..PS I see you have the covers,will be ok.

I appreciate the answer but you have not clarified my doubts. The question is clear. Must the holes on both sides have the same diameter?

I say this because this Twin Carburettor has 'never' been quite right. I feel the engine with a lack of gasoline that only improves when I pull the starter or when the engine has already reached its correct temperature. And I suspect this could be the problem.

This hole is there, so that the fuel bowl can "breathe" (else it can not fill up with fuel because of trapped air). I am no expert on this matter, but I doubt if a bigger non matching hole will impact performance.

To be sure, replace it, or make the other hole bigger to?

If you have carb problems as you say "Not Quite Right" then its going to be down to mixture setting or the wrong needles for the application, thats assuming you don't have air leaks and the rest of the engine is in good order. What does not quite right mean ? flat spots ?

Cheers man. I thought precisely that. Drill and make the hole bigger. But what if the worst! Do you know what that cover of the first photo in Burlem cost me? They are very expensive items.

Thanks for reply. The needles are correct. GY code. If you try to fit sometíng richer, M or AH2 for example, the car goes worse.

I've bought a new float lid because I thought the hole was too big, and often the gasoline would overflow leaving that greenish color on top. In addition, the sound of the engine is bad until it is already hot, it dilates, and all the fuel it needs enters it. So the sound is round and it sounds like a real Austin Mini.

When today I got the new float lid and I saw that it also has a large hole, I told myself perhaps the correct hole is the big one, and the cover on the other side with the small hole is the one that does not correspond to this carburetor.

So what is the correct diameter?

You could find that the particular hole has being slightly increased and drilled.

 

The baffle holes are quite small, and could have got bunged up with sediment, and someone made a size increase. The standard hole was sufficient, but aluminium does have a habit of growing grime with condensation and damp

 

The baffle covers will however stop any s h one t getting in. The float lids are about £22 with around £6.95 postage as an idea.

 

Personally - I would not worry about it. It is only a breather hole, but just a bit bigger than the other.

 

If you are having mixture or petrol feed issues - then delve a bit deeper, but that hole won't really give you any problems, it is only to aid breathing.

I think the springs are correct. Before reds and now blue ones.
