If you found one in that nick in the uk you’d be extremely lucky

Doesn’t look in bad nick at all

What sort of money is that in NZ

At the right money I think is a no brainier

It’s about 5000gbp including the other shell. Prices are going nuts for minis here since about 2 years ago. This price for me is reasonable as it’s what the guy paid a few years ago but isn’t getting around to the project. He just bought it and pushed it to the back of his shed. On a rough price estimate I think I would have to sink maybe 10000gbp into it but a mint Aussie GT in Australia are starting to go for 20-25gbp

I’d go for it at that price £10k should be a decent budget

Hopefully you can do a lot of the dirty work and mechanicals yourself, and get a professional paint job

Guessing with the current exchange rate that works out at about $10k NZD... I'd be very tempted to go for that especially when considering what it'd be worth outside of NZ in fully restored condition as well! I pretty much doubled the resale value of my NZ car just by bringing it with me to the UK, prices are going up now in NZ but not quite at the same level as some other markets yet.

If you buy it, are you after a shiny car or could you imagine keeping its patina?

I would at first have the whole Mini inside out dry-ice blasted to see how the original paint (if it is) comes out. If it's too bad you can still strip the paint and do a full body restoration. Just my 2p.

What does pantina mean?
a : a usually green film formed naturally on copper and bronze by long exposure or artificially (as by acids) and often valued aesthetically for its color.
b : a surface appearance of something grown beautiful especially with age or use the beautiful patina of this antique table.

Patina in terms of a car means to keep as much of the original paint, scratches whatever rather than getting rid of all the cars "life" with a new shiny restoration. Sometimes also named a "rustoration". Only structural faults are to be mended and either left visible or blended in.

Hence I suggested dry-ice cleaning as it gets rid of all the muck and loose rust, so you can see what the condition is. Then some paint polishing and local rust removal / preservation and you might get a car that bears its age related scars and wrinkles with pride. Market value of patina cars is actually higher too.

Well, I did it. I bought the Aussie GT! I got it home last weekend so will start a new build thread for this!

But before I do. I saw this other normal 1275GT. Have you seen an engine number plate like this? Its a 12H706 engine, but I've never seen the Z letter on the second line of the engine plate. Thoughts?
