The car will drive ok on the road, however there are many different advance curves from the factory.
The 65DM4 is the correct dizzy for later metro turbo. Was also used on other engines later on. I don't think there is any difference between any 65DM4 units. So its a reasonable start point but defiantly not correct. As I say I am pretty certain it will require less advance so I will make adjustments to the stops and hopefully that will get it going ok.Metro turbo dizzy would be safe but curve not right
So there is more than 1 curve used in 65DM4? I thought they were all the same unit?

Great Little chart that, perhaps an admin could work out a way to pin that somewhere on the site?

Thanks for all the info, I searched for the same kind of chart, and found one but it was not so complete, it did not list the 65DM4. I will look today and see if I can identify the 2 that I have.

Ok. I have 2 x 65DM4 distributors - Checking the numbers against the Lucas chart No1 is from Metro Turbo and No2 is from Maestro 1.3 HLE
From info I can find the Metro Turbo advance curve for the genuine Turbo 65DM4
750 3.5 1500 7
1000 5 2000 10
1500 8.5 3000 17
2000 9.5 4000 19
2500 10.5 5000 21
3000 10.5 6000 21
42628 65DM4 CCW 2800 8.5 1440 7 1180 5.5 450 0.5 1984 > BMC Minis with engine number 12HD26(AA) 1984 onward MG Metro turbo
Cant find info yet on the Maestro unit. But I will keep searching.
I also have a 59DM4 with curve detail shown below -

Some good info. The question is.. I have the choice of 3 distributors.
1 genuine turbo 65DM4 but not intended for a 998 turbo
2 Non genuine 65DM4 from a Maestro 1.3 HLE
3 genuine turbo 59DM4 but not intended for 998 turbo
The 59DM4 I would prefer not to use or touch as its for my 1310 engine. The genuine 65DM4 is fully refurbed with new vacuum unit and is my spare for the 1310. That leaves me with a Maestro 65DM4 unit that I can use. Obviously if the advice is to use one of the others I will.
