Determined to get some reliability from this little engine.

Although I'm about to pick up an 1100 as a spare motor to build up slowly I still don't want to give up on the 850 as it will feel like I've wasted a potentially serviceable unit that could still do its job for at least the next few years.

It's running 65 lbs oil pressure from cold so I know the bottom end is all ok. It doesn't use loads of oil and the bores are smooth with no lip although it will at some point need a hone and new rings but hey 850s are so low stressed they can run over 100k before needing a rebuild.

I've got this little dream of doing a trip to Austria next year with luck it can actually happen

To be fair you really cant rule anything in or out as a cause of the failures if you are using a "crap" torque wrench.. I know lots of people me included who do not use a torque wrench for most nuts and bolts... for me there are three areas where a torque wrench must be used.

1. Head

2. Flywheel

3. Wheel nuts

And if you must use one for these 3 items, it must be accurate or you defeat the whole point in using one in the first place

Nothing wrong with those bendy torque wrenches. Just check it’s calibration with a Vice and a bucket of water.

I was going to type it out, but this is easier

Thanks I'll give that a watch. My torque wrench is one of those bendy pole jobs with a pointer... Probably inaccurate as hell

They’re not necessarily bad, they’re a lot more accurate than some cheap spring type wrenches. I use the pole ones for diff rebuild on us cars
