Then the ball-joint splitter that shattered on me also proves that ball-joints can sometimes be a bit stubborn! It was the cast type where the screw presses on the end of the ball-joint thread.
Now that was a loud bang as part of the casting took a lump out of the garage door!!! Luckily not me or my Dad!

Yes.
The tool is not expensive and works.
I have used one many times in my life. I have read about the hammer method, but - why? It does not sound like fun to me.

If you watch the old Ed China Wheeler Dealers you often see him using the two hammer method but he barely taps them suggesting to me they have been "broken" before filming, prob using the proper tool

Very scripted and yes as you say I too think pre undone.
Scripted or not it was great with Edd, really cannot stand to watch it now with the new chap.

Many thanks for all the comments I bought a scissor type one yesterday, so fingers crossed that it works without too much stress. This is the first time I've done this job, so I'm expecting it to take a while...
