How worn is worn. The holes are elongated on the cage. Should the cage have zero movement along the driveshaft?

I've found the joint is worn to the point of replacing when the cage wears, when it's at that point, with the Balls fitted, it should move freely (even if stiff), but when the Cage is worn, it sticks, then suddenly lets go. It is this action that causes them to give an audible 'Click' that are synonymous with worn CVs.
