Hiya Folks,

I have a single SU HS4 waxstat carburettor, is there a conversion kit so I can go to standard jet (Aue1111 is a jet I've seen on Minisport UK website) the carb doesn't have an ID tag fitted.

https://www.minispor...nal-su-hs4.html

Do I need a different Choke linkage to what I have now?

I can get pictures of the carb fitted if needed

You can replace the jet with AUE1111 use the old choke or get a standard jet and get a choke linkage conversion. Either or but don't need both. I chose AUE1111 as I was changing the jet anyway and I believe both options should work with all HS4 carbs.

There is a conversion kit from Burlen fuels

BFS701SUL  for left hand connection

BFS701SUR for right hand interconnection

These are for the HS4 carbs.  These parts operate the choke mechanism

Is that left or right as viewed in the drivers seat, or from the top, looking from front of car?

I can't find those numbers from the burlen site

They sell the BFS701SUL on Minispares which I assume is right for a single HS4 setup given its the only one they sell

Interested in seeing how this all fits together if you can upload pictures when done.

I will do, it's quite easy to fit together but care needs to be taken not to kink the plastic tube and also seat the ferrule at the same time (I have both issues here)

I have the conversion fitted but not with the fancy BFS701SUL

I'm thinking to get the conversion to standard jet, purely because I'd need to strip the waxstat jet down to convert to non waxstat

I have used the 2 pence mod for years.

You bend the tabs on the waxstat ditch the wax and replace with two 1p pieces, bend the tabs back and your done.

No need to mess about with linkages

I found a pic on a forum

Would a fuel weep at the tube nut give a fuel starvation stutter? I had the car out for a drive today and under partial throttle acceleration it would have a fuel misfire (it's the easiest way to describe it) not pulling cleanly through the rev range and a slight stutter under load too.

I had to change the spark plugs this morning too, the gaps were about 35 thou. I drove it about 2 miles on 3 cylinders as sometimes they can clean up. Came home and changed all 4 for a spare (year old) set, like for like BP6ES NGK plugs

Possibly, fuel's sucked from the jet, so if fuel can weep out, air could be drawn in.

The tube going into the jet really just sits in the jet.

You could just put a ring of Superglue around where the tube goes in to the jet for peace of mind.

That will give you a better idea rather than just spending £25 on a jet with postage
