Go for it, it will look much better with the centre dash which is the traditional iconic Mini dash, (even in new generation modern MINI's) and if a future owner wanted to change it back it is not that difficult to do in the overall scheme of things. Unlikely anyone would want to refit that non-original ugly 'homemade' looking dash and centre console anyway! They used to be on sale at Mini shows but never understood why anyone would buy one....

As said you will have to drill a hole for the speedo cable, etc as later Minis have a solid metal bulkhead with no large central hole.

thank you.

I feel better. I think this is the kind of feedback I wanted. To say my idea is ok. But I understand now that it can be reversed later, if needed.

If it were me, I would keep everything that is removed (dashboard, center console etc) even if you don’t like it purely for re-sale of the car. I know we all don’t want to think of selling our minis but life is what it is and sometimes it throws a curveball your way. I think it may be more appealing to future ‘potential’ buyers if they have that option of going to a more original looking car.

As for the change itself, I’ll reiterate what I think everyone else has said. If that’s what you want to do, then do it! If it means you’ll have more fun driving it then who is anyone else to tell you differently on what to do with your own possessions. I have an MPI Cooper and personally I prefer the clocks behind the steering wheel, but I can see the appeal.

I'm doing this conversion at the moment on a customers mini, its relatively simple in terms of wiring, you can splice a conversion loom in. But as mentioned the Mpi has a lot more wiring, relays and modules on the inner bulkhead than a mini from central binnacle era. Also you have to move one of the heater hose pipes or cut the binnacle to fit around it. Ideally you want to loose the padded top rail too.

And what about an original MPI dash?

Hello everyone

Thank you all so much for your contributions, helpful hints and thoughts.

After spending some time looking for the items and weighing in what to be done, I have now decided to go the other way, and find an original MPI Sports Pack dash to replace this after market one I have.

Thank you

H

If your steering wheel is obscuring the dials, would a lowering bracket on the steering column move the wheel enough to improve your view? Much cheaper and easier than changing the dash. Improves the angle of the steering wheel too.
