Many of us used to be nervous about our first engine build, but for a standard Mini engine it is pretty straightforward.
We are all here to help and advise.

Sorry to sound like I don't have a clue.
. I guess I don't! I could take apart a 2 stroke engine when I was little 😊😊 what tools would I need to strip and rebuild an A+ series engine?

A decent socket set, a torque wrench, imperial AF spanners, flywheel puller, feeler gauges, engine stand is handy but not essential, somewhere spacious enough to work. A dial gauge is useful and also a timing protractor (again, not essential, but useful nevertheless). Piston ring compressor - these are not expensive.

But the one thing I would insist on is patience.

I rebuilt mine last year, I have rebuilt a few cars and i'm not a stranger to mechanical work but I had never rebuilt an engine. I did cheat a little, i brought the pistons before i had it bored and honed (took them with the block) and I got the machine shop to supply the shells (don't know if this makes any difference). Non of it is hard just time consuming, there's plenty of youtube advise and just take your time.

I'm so glad I did it and it was a proud moment when it started  :proud:.
