Just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction. I’ve tried to start my supercharger 1275 engine today with no luck albeit it started for a few seconds.

Engine spec:
1275 rebuild Cooper engine
MSE4 minispares head
Hif44 carb with BCA needle and 12oz spring
Eaton m45 suck through supercharger set up
Heater element fitted within air filter housing to aid carb icing
Facet solid state fast road pump and large filter king regulator.

I’ve linked below a few videos to show the initial attempts to start up.

After several times trying to start the air filter started leaking fuel from the bottom of paper section which i guess was because of over fuelling ?

I’ve got the fuel regulator set at 3psi is that correct? I’m concerned it needs more to get up the inlet pipe ?

I’ve attached a picture showing the breathe pipe from the supercharger which is attached to my non return brake servo pipe. Should I be seeing fuel out of this pipe from the supercharger when trying to start ? Just trying to work out if fuel is getting in.

I’ve also fitted one of Vmaxscart’s electronic distributors to replace my old points unit. I’ve also attached a few pictures which show this wired up. Black to negative and red to Positive of coil, I’ve also added the old cables either side on the coil as per before. I did originally have a cable that went from the car wiring to the the distributor via spade connector and had my Rev counter feed spliced in, should that be linked back up some how ? or I need to change the coil to suit the new distributor.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You can probably leave the coil as is and just run a 12v feed from the ignition to the distributor for now. Long term it may be worth upgrading to a 12v coil and new feed and taping up the pink and white balast.

Thanks, I’ve brought an accu sparks non ballast coil as linked above.

Do I trace back the pink/ white cable and swap this at the connection point for a new cable ? How about the yellow and black cable on the negative side ? Does this stay.

Yeah you can trace back and replace or tape it up and run a new feed from top left on the fuse box I believe. Everything else remains the same

Hi,

From your videos, it sounds like the ignition maybe too far advanced as your can hear the starter motor struggling when it does try and fire up.

Sorry I’m not very knowledgeable on forced induction!

Cheers, Steve.

Thanks for the help, so if I back the distributor off anti clockwise a bit at a time to see if it makes a difference ?

I’m also going to sort the coil an swap it for the correct non ballast one, will it be the white cable on top left corner that originally feeds the ignition as pictured below and needs swapping out for a new feed to the coil ? Any suggestions on cable amp ? I’ve got some 8 or 17.

Dont just "back the distributor off" get the timing checked and properly adjusted/calibrated.Boosted motors can very quickly destroy themselves with incorrect timing, sometimes measured in seconds.Enjoy,Steve..

Yes it’s due to be booked in with Vmaxscart for a rolling road session however I want to get it basically running first then will have it trailered over to Vmaxscart.

Speaking with Stuart at vmax he has advised its 26 degrees at 4000 rpm with vac off and static timing is 9 degrees.
