Thanks Whistler,

I do like my history lessons  since their are not to many Geography lessons happening at the moment in the world.

I did just manage to secure a 4.1 Crown and pinion local in Australia, hopefully not one of those ones that you were talking about in Rallying ;-)

I just want what ever Spider is having ;-)

Guys,

I'll just add the missing info here that Brad has a Moke that runs 13" wheels (and a dia for 24").

The standard ratio for this arrangement was 4.2 though the very last had 4.3.

To put this in perspective, a Moke with 4.2:1 does the same engine / road speed as a Mini with 3.4:1 (ir circa 16 mph / 1000 rpm).

After trying ratios from 3.9, 4, 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3, I run a 4.1 in mine and love it.

Just an added piece of history. In the 60's the ADO16, Austin/Morris 1100 had a 4.1 FD as standard with 12" wheels. Tyres were 185 profile which made the driving speed/revs about right. Of course when those engines were transplanted into a mini on 10" it made a brilliant acceleration machine for club rallying.

In the mid  / late 80's I'd buy Morris 1100 (as they were sold here) to break up. About all that I could sell was the engine and the final drive gears.
