I have 96 Rover from Japan. RHD. Seems completely stock at the moment. Looking to replace the exhaust, both for noise and looks. I like the side exit compared to center.

But from my looking at Minispares, Minisport, Minimania, there are A LOT of options.

Looking for replacement, gives noise, but relatively quiet. Is this what Maniflow does? What bore size? Do I absolutely NEED to place the downpipe?

I have a 99 JDM Mini Cooper, think its was pretty standard, I have put Maniflow LCB, it already had a either Fletcher or RC 50 boxes and 3" side outlet, I also put K&N filter.  She sounds lovely, so much so drive with the window down a lot more, plus lot more mid range torque. I kept the CAT fitted too,  I took the KPH gauge off and managed to buy brand new old stock one with nil miles.  My Mini is wicked and it is really nippy surprises a lot as I pass them on dual carriageway, have hit max on 110 mph gauge, so even taking 10% off still 100 not bad for a pretty standard Mini

Not sure looks ok, go and join the Face Book Group JDM Classic Mini Owners and pose the question there someone will know exact answer.  I think that one  will depend on if you have a CAT if it will fit?

Can I bypass the CAT? I’m exempt from emissions controls here in the US due to it being an import. Would removing the CAT be harmful in any other way?

Just remove the CAT, you'll probably need to remove the Lambda as an input from the ECU too, so the car runs

Maybe I’ll leave the cat and get system that goes from cat to exit.

Sounds like a better idea, you'll not notice the losses with the cat fitted.

Id fit the RC40i full exhaust kit so you know its all nice and shiny

Did you remove the cat too? How was removing the lambda sensor?

You can buy just the cat back Rc40 so it'll mount straight onto the cat... But id suggest buying the downpipe too as the orientation can be different on new parts.
You can get a Cat delete pipe but I don't know if there's an SPI downpipe and link pipe for cat deletes

Sounds nice, but quiet, that said the one it's previous owner had fitted was a loud fat pipe.

You can fit other back boxes such as this RC40 with a rolled tip if you use the correct cat link pipe.

Did you remove the cat too? How was removing the lambda sensor?

I have a cat replacement pipe as I didn't get an exhaust with my car in boxes project. I have used the standard SPI exhaust manifold and downpipe as it flows just fine, which means the lambda is still in its original place, there is none past the cat.

I have had RC40 cat backs on my MPi for the last 12 years. I'm happy with the sound: rorty but not unpleasantly intrusive:

Given the transport costs, for you, it might pay to get a Stainless Steel one:

I can't speak for the sound from the Stainless one but, based on other cars I've owned with stainless systems, they tend to sound a little sharper than mild steel systems.
