Hello

 

Could anybody shine a light for me how to install TEX mirror with this kit ?

 

I've installed the new door skin with two 3/16" rivnut close to each other. 

 

The kit has a very thin plate which screwed to these rivnuts. ( Side note : the kit includes M5 screws. No problem, I have 3/16's)

 

The base of the mirror (black plastic) screwed to the plate with smaller, self-tapping screws.

 

But these screws are longer and want to "drill" into the door skin. Also the the plastic base and the thin plate is not lies on each other, but in angle.

 

Are you understand what I am talking about ?

The original chrome mirrors were also used on Marinas, Allegros...

 

To make them fit the Mini there was a plinth (shaped a bit like an orange segment) to put them at the correct angle. Expect the kit is designed for that.

I suppose which Tex mirrors you are referring to as there are two types that I'm aware of. Also the fitting kit is dependant on the year of car. Tex mirrors should come with everything needed to fit doors of cars up until 1980. Then you need the kit you have here for cars from 1980 onwards until end of production.

You can just about see the kit you are talking about fitted to Tex mirrors I took off of my 1990 car in this thread:

I have this set. The mirrors came with the car together with black thing. Plate is from MiniSpares.

 

Today I put the plate and the black thing on the door and they fitted surpisingly well. Now I see a little light in the dark

Be sure to check if the glass is the convex type. My mirrors were flat type glass and gave horrible viewing coverage, basically all you could see was corners of other cars behind you. MS offer replacement glass for these in convex and I just swapped them in to great satifaction.

The first thing that I replaced were the flat mirrors

also just jumping on the thread, where or how does one get new rubber seals. mini are only 4yr old and have already degraded and spit

The original Mini plinth is not the same as the black plastic one - it was shared with the MG Midget. It does not use the captive fixings in the door skin.
