The ali' plate has 2 set of holes, 1 pair lines up with the holes in the door, the other pair with the 2 countersunk holes in the black plinth.
Now, the holes in the ali' plate where the bolts that secure the black plinth have no thread, and it is cut by the bolts that go in them.
Best bet is to do the initial tapping off the car so you have a good grip and don't damage the bolt, plinth or paintwork.
Hope that helps. If not I'll try and get some pics.

I’ve had to rap a bit of insulation tape round the black bit so the mirrors a nice snug push fit, then to tighten up the screw to stop them wobbling.
that the best bit of advice ive heard i going to try that when i get home thanks alot

Cool,
I have to make another hole
So i have to have the plinth straight, to cover the hole. so at the mo, its holding on with one screw lol..
looks great tho.
when i in the left mirror, i can only see 3 quarters of the mirror its self.. that normal lol its not that bad

Same with mine, I’ve been trying to look for one of those blind spot stick on mirror things, which might help, if I could find one or I’m going to fit one of those overtaking mirrors that clamp to the seam trim.

if the hoels are apart, you will probably need the chrome plinths..it happened to my 1977 mini...I had to buy chrome ones, which actually were originally fitted to it as standard!
