After restoring quite a few minis over 40 odd years I did everything as per the manual but this 1969 Cooper has been particularly odd. Although it all runs ok now I've half a mind to pull the engine out and double check all the settings from first principles purely out of interest, but that's as far as it got!

On some MG Midgets the timing marks were on the bottom of the pulley and cover.Your car is relatively elderly and you probably cannot be sure of its history.Does the timing advance with revs?is the vacuum can working?

When you say it is very slow do you mean that it is slower than it was or just slow relative to other new cars?

Personal preference but I would fit a proper air filter. On one of my other cars with datalogging I found a cone filter caused the fuel trim to vary wildly according to underbonnet and intake air temps.Have fun with your diagnosis.Steve..
