Is it a 998 or a 1275 build.

most likely a number added by the people who rebuilt it.

Is this number a genuine engine identification number?

According to the owners logbook (dvla) it is a 1275 GT model from 1976
with engine model number "91A" from AUSTIN and the engine number is "A163904"

I am just wondering if this engine matches the original engine identification numbers

According to the website

https://www.minimani...on_Data_UPDATED

there is no Austin Clubman Mini 1275 GT engine that starts with "91A".

Thank you.

Original engine numbers are on a plate, reversed stamped ie from back of plate, riveted over that area on the block and not stamped into it.

Yup that's definitely an aftermarket number. Someone has built that and added their own number, be it a company or an individual.

It's a 1275 A+ engine and I would guess that it is out of a Metro originally. Pre verto clutch.

thats strange, the first registration of the car was in 1976 and the engine number is the one shown above (91A163904)

How can the car have an engine from 1980+ if the engine number on the DVLA is from 1976?

Engine numbers and engines can be changed at anytime. My Midas originally had a Cooper S engine which was sold on. It now shows as having a Metro engine.

So if its a A+ 1275cc engine, does the value decrease if its fitted on the 1275gt?

Is it common that the A+ engines are fitted on the 1275gt?

So basically I bought an old 1275gt car and i want to fully restore it with original/new parts.
will this engine/car be considered as an antique austin mini 1275 gt car and be "accepted" by the classic mini's community?

Probably not ever by some people. Are you happy with it is the question?Keep it and enjoy or continue to search for the holy grail. When you have rebuilt everything with new parts is it original anyway?Just my thoughts as an owner and enjoyer of several non original old junkers.Steve.

Can you host the images on Imgur as where they are hosted it is very hard to zoom etc.

But head looks like pre A+ the clutch arm is pre Verto and the block is A+

So I would say it has had a short motor swap.

Oh and the number is nothing like an original one. And I don’t know who made that style.
