i seem to have a problem idling, some days it will sit their idling fine, but when you blip the throttle the revs sometimes drop really fast and it just stops. if it does that i put my foot on the throttle hard and when it comes down it goes straight to the proper idling speed..its kinda annoyin because when i come to traffic lights or stop cars i dip the clutch and the engine just dies ... can anybody help?
thanks

Had this problem yesterday, it's in low RPM when idling especially when the engine has gotten a bit hot. I went to the mechanic, and the solution was to fix the fuelling to make the engine running lean. It's trial and error type of thingy actually.
Mine does the same when cold. but once warm enough, its fine

thanks for your help, we managed to find out what the prob was, the oil in the dashpot was too viscous, so we put some 3in1 in it, i gave it a blast down the byepass and its all good... runnin sweet as a nut..
thanks a lot for your help, very much appreciated

Hmmm, that seems like an incredibly stupid idea. Running lean can blow holes in your pistons. Unless you mean the mixture was running rich and you've leaned it off a bit?Had this problem yesterday, it's in low RPM when idling especially when the engine has gotten a bit hot. Theres a fast idle speed and a normal idle speed. Fast idle speed is what regulates the rpm at which your engine will tick over when the choke has been pulled out more than 1/2", normal idle speed is what regulates the speed at which your engine will tick over when the engine is upto normal operating temperature and the choke is all the way in. Consult your Haynes manual for how to adjust these for your engine.

thought about taking it to another garage for a second opinion....
if the car was already running rich then leaning it off would be a good solution.

Err... yup... that's what I mean... The mixture was a bit too rich and I had to leaned it a bit...

I have had the same problem as this on my mini.
I drive along and then pull up at a junction and put the clutch in and it cuts out stalls but when its in nuetral it idles a bit too high. So I dont want to fidle with the idles screw as it will be too high on standing.
What else could it be?
What is the dashpot and where is it? Sorry but am new to all this mini stuff and Haynes is on order but I haven't got it yet....

Do you have trouble changing gear ? And does it feel like its still sort of pushing forwards when you put the clutch down ?
Sounds like the clutch isnt disengaging properly so as you are applying the breaks its stalling the engine.
When you get the haynes through, do the clutch adjustment bits in it and see if it fixes it.
As for the high idle in neutral, easy peasy just drive the car tills it up to normal operating temp (if you dont do this it will be too high at normal temperature) and then adjust the idle to about 1000rpm
