Here's a couple more. Spider says, and thankyou Spider, that the distance from the heelboard to the nearest rear mounting hole is 599mm + or - 3mm. Mine is pretty much spot on, although I welded up the holes as they were oval from movement. I know where they should be and I'll re drill them.
Which brings me back to the subframe being oversize. There's no sign that it's been altered but I wonder if it's from a different vehicle, a 1300 or a special vehicle. Could someone kindly measure one in the same way I've done?

The ADO16 1300 was totally different. From what I can see of the actual subframe it looks like a Mini one. And I can’t think of one that looks like a Mini one that is not a Mini one.

Ah, you're Paul from Adelaide's friend !  I know who you are now !!

If this has been measured from the Heel Board;-

Then that looks right to me and looking at the same measurement you've made on the subframe itself, they seem to match;-

The subframe itself does look to me to be the correct frame.

Maybe if you could (again) fit up the subframe and snap off some photos, we maybe able to spot the issue.

Good for him. I'm a Londoner, Camden Town. More recently from Rye, but been here in Kenya for a few years now.πŸ‘

Some photos of the area in question. One of the whole underneath for good measure. The rear mountings of the front subframe are well chewed up and will need reconstructing. With a g clamp on the forward area the rear is close to being in place. Perhaps some small 'adjustments' might sort this out.

Thanks for posting up the photos.

Has the Rear Cross Member on the body been replaced ? It does appear it has plug welds instead of spot welds, but it's not exactly clear.

Is it the same on both sides ?

It's evident there is an issue and not a small one.

I haven't replaced the crossmember, but it may have been. It's a 1965 moke, spent most of it's life in harsh conditions. If it's in the wrong place, that would explain this problem. The mounting holes were oval, as if someone has previously tried to deal with this. The heelboard is exactly where the old one was, so perhaps I'll move the crossmember. πŸ˜•
