I cannot see the collectability of R50s over R53s.

Its equivalent to a 998 vs a 1275.

Ive had an R53 and still involved in the scene and lots are very well cared for. Not so much the R50 though.

Not one of those is a classic, they are all mediocre at best.

In the 70's, 80's and 90's we couldn't see any value in 850 Minis, they were just a very cheap, or often free 'junker' than no one wanted.

The amount of minis i bought in the 80's for 50- 100 quid and ran them till they dropped is laughable, i even got an old clubman for a tenner which i ran for 10 months before the subframe fell off!
If only i'd have stored them all i'd be a millionaire Rodney!

All those will be classics when they have a few years on their backs.
Last classic show I went to had xr3i's and xr2's on show which shocked me a bit as i never considered those classics but they are now 40 years old.

Agreed....the R53 MINI Cooper S is or soon will be a very collectable classic but then so are/will be the early R50 MINI's as they were the first modern MINI's launched and so an early 2001 built Y Reg R50 is the quite rare equivalent of a 1959 classic Mini, especially if the R50 has the sought after OBL registration for the early factory press cars.

(eg. A good 1959 classic Mini 850 can be on sale for a similar price to a classic Mini Mk1 Cooper S).

Owned a gen1 Boxster. Would agree 100% was a wonderful car. Did everything a sports car should and had no real pitfalls even parts were reasonable.

Spoke to a guy running a 3.2 boxster which had gained £1500 in value over this summer alone.

From personal experience I've owned a mk2 Mr2 n/a for ten years. That car is worth six times what I paid for it and I do believe they will rise faster in the current market. I'd certainly consider exporting the car to the US when the time comes since there's healthy demand over there
