Hi all.

I've got the next job in and ready to start.

This time, it's a late 80's Mayfair which has had the panel work carried out by the owner.

All of the underside and inside of the car has been finished and its with me for the exterior finishing and paintwork.

Here is what I am starting with.

All work to date has been done to a great standard by the owner but there is still plenty to do.

As the doors dis not come fitted to the car the first task is to hang them and make sure they gap up correctly.

And the bonnet was pre fitted but not closing nicely so a bit of realignment sorted that easily

Nothing wrong with those gaps at all so happy, I removed them again and removed the sunroof

GItH2HN.jpg

And top dash rail before sheeting up to stop the dust getting inside

The prep will begin next week.

Cheers

Ben

Another very interesting project that I will be closely following. I've missed my regular Mill Road Garage fix now that mine has been returned.

Loving the new light and airy work space.

I've started the prep this afternoon.

First thing I want to do is the filler work so I prepped each area with 80 grit on the orbital sander and tapped down any high spots before applying the filler

iFmn34f.jpg

46T0vWP.jpg

Some areas around the front of the car had been left bare metal or regular porous primer had been used so there was some rust starting to form in places.
I've cleaned that all back and applied filler to the repair areas.

Continuing on with the prep, once the base filler work was complete, I qqplied the fine finishing stopper to the repair areas to smooth everything right out, fill in pin holes and blend all the edges

okTM4CJ.jpg

dGvzYCM.jpg

I also flatted back all of the original undamaged paint in the areas not requiring repair.

There was a few bits to do on the back end

vOpqnsw.jpg

r3R7RFL.jpg

And a dent in the roof to repair.

Then I went round reinstating the missing arch mounting holes in the new wing and repair areas

A tip for checking any filler work when you ate happy it feels right is to spray it up with panel wipe and then check by eye.

This way, you can see anything that doesn't look right.

Hard to photograph but you get the idea.

And then after checking round every panel again and again, finding more imperfections and correcting them, it's time to call that it for the first round of prep.

A clean down and damask and its ready for primer

I'm halfway through masking it up so primer will be going on by mid morning I expect.

Cheers.

The first thing after degreasing every inch of the car was to apply some acid etch primer to the bare metal areas

Time to block the primer this afternoon.

I started with the front end by applying guide coat.

And then blocked it down

Then moved onto the roof

And then guide coated one aide ready to block in the morning.

I finished repairing the bonnet

UAydWib.jpg

Then primed the bonnet

pb418ze.jpg

And bootlid

UhYuzqS.jpg

And flatted the primer on both

URYDofh.jpg

JDfeV7D.jpg

Then onto the doors.

One required basic prep

Hz0dwe1.jpg

But the other one was quite distorted along the bottom which had stretched the skin.

Easily fixed by slight shrinking, straightening and a skim of filler

twLGn4B.jpg

Once I got those into primer, I marked the car up to paint the roof

gsOXpMs.jpg

And the inside of the bonnet

HXQxR4k.jpg

And bootlid

Xx3A05d.jpg

I'll be ready to paint the rest of the car on Tuesday.

Cheers

Hi all.

Yesterday started with getting this masked up ready for colour.

pnTjrkH.jpg

And then on with the colour

DSJVro7.jpg

And then once baked, I demasked and rolled it out ready for flat and polish
