This is an awesome look at the early days of British stock car racing at Brafield Stadium, Northampton in 1959.  The sport was only 7 years old when this colour film was made and includes some great shots of Car Breakers Yards back in the day....(Original air date: 1959-01-01)

Seen this before. Love the way the crowd are protect by three bits of rope and a few stacks of tyres....

Safety had improved in the 1960s. As a 3 or 4 year old i remember the solid concrete barrier surmounted by a high chain link fence ....& the wheel arcing through the air heading straight for us. It missed us but killed the father of the family sitting immediately behind us.
