Sensor is welded into the exhaust just as the downpipe bends horizontally under the car. Dash pot oil is 3 in 1.
I figured it may be the needle but aren't all needles profiled to get richer as you put your foot down? Seems mines reversed lol

3 in 1 oil is too thin. Burlen sell a specific oil, which I believe is SAE 20.

3in1 is an SAE 20 oil. Too thin. The OP needs to experiment with different oils in the dashpot to get it set correct for the carb. My bet is 20w50 engine oil as this is how the car came from the factory

SAE 20/50 is SAE 20 at low temperatures such as are experienced in carb bodies which are working.  Having compared the two oils just now I can state that 3 in 1 is noticably thinner than the Burlen SU oil, which Burlen state is SAE20

Yes it's thinner but it's been proven time and again that 3in1 or su oil don't work in road mini conditions

What is often overlooked is that the fuel of today is totally different than that of yore so settings from manuals can only be used as a guide,if it hesitates or pops back under acceleration use thicker oil to slow the rise down. Also bear in mind the damper and dashpot is likely worn, the spring may have been mistreated or randomly changed the motor has different characteristics etc.One size may fit all but some fits are better than others.

Gain experience in your particular setup and read tuning guides by respected engine tuners and enjoy applying your new knowledge.Steve..

I pasted a very long answer to this thread many years ago now which if read and understood tells you the fundamentals on how to go about setting up an su carb.

In my view this article is much underused by the Mini community.

SU oil works fine in both of mine - 1x HS4 on 1098 and 2 x HS4 on 1293

Wouldn't use 3-in-1 even though it's base oil is 20w; it's got too many other additives. However straight SU oil works fine for some.
