does the end of the crank look like this? it should do. where you see the groves in the end this is where the washer locates the fly wheel in the correct posision on the crank. there is nothing between washer and flywheel and nothing between crank bolt and washer.

i use a home made bar to turn the flywheel puller, this consists of a 4ft long 1 1/2" threaded bar i half inched from a place i used to work (they were gonna throw it away anyway). On the end of this we welded a 3/4" drive adaptor we had lying around. This is possibly the best tool i have, great for a number of other jobs like tightening the castle nuts on late front hubs. Anthing where you need some mega leverage.

This may be some bad news.

When you laid that motor down, did you make sure the flywheel was the correct way up to remove? If it wasn't then it's almost certain that what has happened is that as the flywheel started to pull away from the taper the primary gear retaining clip has slipped into the groove of the flywheel and jammed. Then you've loaded it up with the puller to such an extent that it'll be locked on place.

If this has happened then there is now no way to remove your flywheel without cutting it away. You might be able to save the crank but that is probably scrap too already as the groove for the retaining clip will be a mess.

This used to be quite common as far as I know, but I haven't heard of it happening myself for a while.

If you did do it properly though, I have no idea what's wrong. But it could be fretted on and if it is then you really will never get it off 'because it's basically welded in place.
