Mini Engine 99H213A-H2511 And 12G295 Queries, Any Ideas?

So:

99 - 998cc

H - transverse engine

213 - means codes Ub (Lucas C40 Dynamo) and We (Centre change all synchromesh)

A - no additional features

H - high compression

 

I can't say what car it came out of, but might give you an idea. The 4 synchro gearbox was introduced in late 1968 & the centre gear change would suggest a base model saloon or commercial. 

That's a remote change box not a magic wand box.  Would it really be commercial or base model?

A 4 synchro centre change used a remote style diff cover like that with a long gearstick that bolted on the bottom. There’s a diagram in the link here:

The casting number on the front of the gearbox case would identify if it is a 3 or 4 synchro gearbox. I have doubts that the engine number matches many of the other details so far

Might be worth checking the stroke. Distributor number and date may help.

I think the spacers between the rockers rather than springs is from Speedwell.

The rad is Austin/Morris 1100/1300.

There will also be a date on the starter motor.

The crank damper is 1275.

The raised dish pistons were only used on 998 engines

The 12G295 head was designed for the MG1100 engine. It used dished type pistons like every other A series engine, not the raised dish on the 998 which was needed to solve the low compression ratio with the reduced engine capacity

It is an elderly motor which may or may not have some of its original parts which are likely to be mostly worn out.You will in all probability have to rebuild every part of it.What is in a rivetted on plate which may or may not belong to this motor?Just my view,others are likely to differ,Steve..

Thanks for everyone’s input, the engine will have a full rebuild so it will be interesting to see what crank it has!

The crankshafts are all the same on the pre-A-plus 998 engines.

I think you have an engine from an original Mk.1 or 2 Cooper 998 on which the engine number plate has been changed. That's no real problem. Just rebuild the engine and fit it. The number doesn't really matter.
You can no longer get the D-top pistons, so use flat tops and skim the head to suit after doing the measurements and calculations.
