Drilled Thermostats

Best Answer Spider , 17 September 2022 - 12:45 AM

Even without holes, when the Thermostat is closed, the warmer coolant will always rise to the higher parts of the coolant circuit - right where the Thermostat is.

If they were meant to have holes, they would be available that way.

surely the drilling of holes is only if the bypass is blocked off to keep a small flow over the thermostat bulb.

Yep, that's correct.  One of my cars has an A+ 1275 with no bypass and three holes drilled in the thermostat plate, the other mini is an 1100 with a bypass and an undrilled thermostat.

I drilled my thermostat as per Minispares recommendations and it took 15-20mins to get up to temp. Installed one without and now its 5 mins... I won't ever drill one again and I have no bypass.

Again not needed.
