Hi All,

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I am sure there is a simple answer to this.

I am going to be putting back the lights and indicators on the front of the mini. The bullet connectors were difficult to get apart when removing the units. They have been cleaned (both male and female parts) using a fine grinding stone and fine sanding disc on my Dremel. My question is what is the best way to stop them getting so corroded again, will a squirt of WD40 or Plusgas do the trick or is there something better?

Regards Paddy

I use Servisol grease on electrical connections. https://amzn.eu/d/6FPqYMP

Any good dielectric grease is ideal. I use it on everything from loom connections to fuses and bulbs, it's only after quite a long period of time that you realise you don't have electrical issues anymore!

A quick search brought up this: https://www.amazon.c...202311674&psc=1

You could replace the connectors with something more modern & weatherproof, like Econoseal, but they wouldn't then thread through the inner wings as easily, if needed, There might also be some fun of a thickwall to thinwall cable interface nature

Be aware that petroleum jelly isn't resistant to heat, so be careful where you use it.

The mini I am working on is my daughter's 1988 Mini Designer. She is the second owner and has had it for about 27 years, the previous owner was an elderly lady. We are trying to keep it as original as possible hence keeping the bullet connectors.

I generally use battery terminal grease to prevent corrosion on contacts - e.g.
this from LM: Liqui Moly Battery Terminal Grease

and KontaKt 60 spray (by Kontakt Chemie) as a prior remedy if contacts are already corroded.

have found no areas prone to heat that need it. even inline connectors behind carb on bulkhead were fine
