I'd say the (very rich) guy churning 3 electric cars is doing more for the environment than the bloke with the 10yr old diesel. He'll need a hell of an income to stay very rich, but he will have subsidised 2 secondhand car buyers all the way down the chain to take a couple of old smokers off the road.
I believe it takes an average 6 years of filling up your tank to offset the production cost in CO2.
We haven't made enough of chargeable hybrids though, he's right on that.
