hello - see the object in the red circle in the attached photo. 

am i correct in assuming these little plates are meant to protect the carpet? 

i'm about to put new carpet in a '65 countryman. My mini is missing these things (if they were ever included). 

and i'm wondering if its something i should include, and what they are called!

As you guessed. It is where the rear of the seat rests.

any idea the proper name so i could pick up a few? cant seem to find them at the parts site.
