I know this will have been covered in the past but with possibly different size wheels and offsets but...

Is it possible to fit disc brakes to 10" wheeled cars without the need for spats or arches?

So 145 tyres and 4.5" wheels?

I'm running the original type 4 pot KAD callipers, will that limit the wheel choice?

You might struggle to get the Kads under 10s, I'm running steel reverse rims with 7.5 discs and calipers with 165 /70/10 tyres

Do your reverse rims and 165/70 tyres protrude beyond the wheel arch?

Hi will check tomorrow I had Weller Mnistox wheels on 5 x 10 with standard 2.5 "arches, different offsets though, but as per post I love the reverse rims

Mine is 7.5” discs with Minispares ST/minilife 4.5” wheels and 165 A008 tyres.

My wish list was:
New wheels which are round and light and can be balanced
No wheel arch extensions (all the tyre tread needs to be covered by the body here)
No spacers or caliper mods
Take 165 or 145 tyres
No inner tubes

There was only two choices I could find - Cooper S steel wheels and the Minispares wheels

another one is a lightweight alloy alternative to the S rim with safety bead

Yep, if I was going for the Cooper S looking option I would have picked the alloy version. I’ve had a few problems in the past with wobbly old steel wheels and inner tubes and avoid them wherever possible now!

Standard Cooper S rims with 165's fit fine with no need for arches.

Another option is Rostyles from the original 1275GT, but they're not that easy to find now.

Reverse rims will need arches. As my old Mayfair shows... Don't forget that if you don't already have spacer drums on the rear, you will require them along with the appropriate studs.

Not meaning to hijack the thread (I was about to ask the same question), but can you use 165 tyres with the Cooper S type (steel or alloy) without arch extensions or only 145? Would I need to also fit flat rear brake drum?

You need to keep the spacer rear drums to keep the track the same as the front.

165 tyres on cooper S steels start to get a little bit too wide depending on what state you’re in and how picky they are. For example in South Australia, the flares were factory fitted to cover 145 tyres as they’re a bit more strict. You can get away with them in NSW, I’ll try and find you a photo:

Thanks Tim. Not picky up here fortunately, and that pic looks ok to me, from that angle anyway.

The Cooper 'S' had 7.5" discs, 4.5 x 10" wheels as a factory-fitted option (3.5" were standard) and 145/80 x 10 tyres. That was fine without arch-extensions. With 165/70 x 10 tyres the tyre edge is 1 cm further out, but it's not really an issue.

I don't like arch extensions, but I have run 5" x 10" wheels on my cars with 165/70 x 10 tyres with no issues.
