Mine is 7.5” discs with Minispares ST/minilife 4.5” wheels and 165 A008 tyres.

My wish list was:
New wheels which are round and light and can be balanced
No wheel arch extensions (all the tyre tread needs to be covered by the body here)
No spacers or caliper mods
Take 165 or 145 tyres
No inner tubes

There was only two choices I could find - Cooper S steel wheels and the Minispares wheels

Standard Cooper S rims with 165's fit fine with no need for arches.

The Cooper 'S' had 7.5" discs, 4.5 x 10" wheels as a factory-fitted option (3.5" were standard) and 145/80 x 10 tyres. That was fine without arch-extensions. With 165/70 x 10 tyres the tyre edge is 1 cm further out, but it's not really an issue.

I don't like arch extensions, but I have run 5" x 10" wheels on my cars with 165/70 x 10 tyres with no issues.

Thanks All, I am going to get the bodywork sorted and i don't fancy any arches.

Just as another option with drums, the rear of my Pickup has Dunlop D1 alloy wheel with Falken 165/70 10" tyres. They look fine without any arches.

Do one side rev rims.... one side dunlop D1's... best of both worlds....

(But best to keep same driven axle the same)

Also interested in other opinions/experiences from people! Not meaning to hijack your thread, but I would like to fit the 5x10 Minilight alloys from JBW (https://www.johnbrow...t-4x1016-5010ML) without arches. Here in The Netherlands you're allowed to have the most outer edge of the tyre stick out up until 3cm from the most outer edge of the bodywork...

possibly, but i think would be very close and depend on how strict the rule is enforced

a 4.5" cooper S rim has an offset of 36mm and when fitted to a disk hub does not usually (in the UK) require arches.  (It is possible that the tyre sidewall does extend beyond the bodywork a little especially if using 165 tyres)

a 5" rim is 12mm wider so would require an offset of 42mm to keep the outer edge in the same relative position

the alloy in the link has an offset of 12mm, so the edge would be 30mm further out

Thanks for this calculation, that really helps! As far as I can see, the Cooper S 4.5" rim sticks out a tiny bit with 7.5" disc brakes, so I guess the JBW setup would not be legal :-(.

Paddy just after i fitted the 7.5" Cooper S disc conversion plus new cones and shocks

And the suspension a little more settled

So 4.5" Cooper S rims with 165 Yoko's.

Now the only issue is the rears. Now this was before i fitted spacered drums so in these pictures i fitted additional spacers to the non spacered drums. At the height in the picture no issues at all but once it settled and hard cornering the rears would rub slightly on the quarters. Normal cornering no problem at all. A quick tweak on the hi lo's would easily sort that out.

When I first built my car I didn't have time to fit arches over 4.5 x 10s before I drove it to Monte - although they don't poke much I found the side of the car got covered in road grime in the rain

I’m guessing if it was fitted with 145s they wouldn’t have rubbed without having to raise the ride height?
