Hi Baron

Some wise advice on here from A.C and Spider

I would go further , and strongly suggest you get an experienced and trusted shop /or machine shop to measure bores/ rods for closure,  ( might be easier or harder to find in Kuala Lumpur - sorry)  and then if new different rods and pistons required measure again etc

Only use the circlip or gudgeon pin provided with the piston - near enough is not good enough in these instances.

In terms of cost -  sometimes the best tool for the job is the credit card -   Yes more expensive but peace of mind.    Good luck

damn. more unplanned for expenses, and with my current job i have no time to do the engine myself

Hello. If you allow me to comment after having read the whole thread... You said that now you are not going to be able to rebuilt the engine yourself due to your current job. Maybe you should consider taking the engine to a true professional expert in building these engines. Saving money is great, but cheap things are sometimes very expensive. And there are a hundred ways to go wrong again.

Hi earwax. What are you referring to when you talking about closure of the bores/rods please?

This is not advice.Personally I would be tempted to fit new circlips and rebuild it with all the old parts.Ideal?No.Might run reasonably well for ages.Just my poor thoughts.Steve..

A 'close and hone' is part of Con Rod reconditioning.

The Big Ends get out of shape with use and it's the shape and size of the big end in the con rod that holds the bearing shells in place as well as in alignment.

In this process, a few thousands of an inch are ground off the con rod and cap, they are then bolted back together, torqued up and then the bore in the big end is honed back to correct size and shape.

You can read a bit of what con rod reconditioning is here;-

Personally, I wouldn't assemble an engine without having them reconditioned.

Aah. okay

I believe i had that done the last time, but if thats all it involves it's not the worst thing in the world to do it again with ARP bolts. I planned to have the machine shop check the clearances for the bearings again anyway.
