I thought I'd throw up some pics of our Travels from Sydney across to Adelaide for our attendance at Mokin' SA.

It's the tail end of summer here as far as the marked seasons go, though, it's usually warm to hot right through to around Easter in April. Certainly this year has been no exception.

I'm traveling across with a mate, Garry, who's been on these pages previously, so far, we've only been on the road 2 days. While it's only a circa 1400 km trip, we are taking a few days to do it and take in some of the stuff to see.

Our first stop was at one of the WWII Gunning Emplacements, at Lithgow

We visited the Gem Stone Museum at Bathurst. Here's a fossil checking out his brothers;-

Before too long, the daytime temps grew

Though the Moke didn't seem to mind too much

Onwards to Canowindra. A good few years back while doing some road works, they uncovered some fish fossils that turned out to be some of the most significant discovers ever, including some of the first evidence where fish first crawled out of the sea

Garry with  more of his brothers

A brief stop at Eugowra to have a look at some murals

By this time, the temps were getting a little beyond a joke

So we called it a day at Forbes

Looking forward to the updates!  Happy travels and tell Garry to get his shorts and thongs on.  Too hot for jeans.

Sorry Spike and Garry I was going to wish you both a wonderful and safe trip. The missus was yelling at me when I posted the last comment that I was late in going to collect the Fish and Chips so had to end it very rapidly or suffer a thick ear. :nuke:

All the best guys.

Paddy

Cheers Paddy !    They say Australia is an experience !  I hope you still have some ears left and that the family's dinner didn't end up being cold !

Paul, the jeans Garry had on were a double edged sword mate, they are hot for sure, but at those temps, shorts mate little difference. He wisely had them on because it's easy to get quite sunburnt leg and arms for that matter in a Moke,,,, The UV here is was more intense than in the Northern Hemisphere.

Here's another angle of the Mural in Eugowra (this one from a camera, not a phone)

Day 2 we had a short day due mostly to the heat, pulling up stumps by 1:30 in the arvo

Garry wanted to bore me to death at a Glass Gallery in West Wyalong

Further in town, we found a good Greek Cafe / Pizza shop, the Paragon

j2lbZUp.jpg

No frills Funerals,,,, the people are just dyin' to come here,,,,,

A brief stop in the Parking Bay / Info board at the one horse town of Weethale

From here we pushed on to Goolgowi, yeap, a one horse town that I didn't bother snapping any pics of, though we stayed the afternoon and night there.

Day 3

Stopped in at the site of the Hay Nationals, where the various Mini Car Clubs gather once a year to duke it out at their Motorkhana, if I recall it's the longest continuous running motor sport event in Australia, have been run now for over 50 years;-

RsKP95N.jpg

Funny thing to see a Mini out in the middle of nowhere with a Pole shoved up it's backside,,,,

The former Hay Railway Station, it was pivotal for the district for nearly 100 years, and played a big part during WWII

Garry on his way home at the Hay Gaol (now a Museum)

Where of course, they paid homage to the Hay Nationals, with a corner set aside for posters and photos

and all the other usual Museum stuff on display

and some say they wouldn't work in one

It's easy to see out here where a certain Society gets it's Flat ideas from

Just out of Hay is the Famous Gate

Hi Spider,

Yep my ears are safe thank you and diner was hot and appreciated by her ladyship.

Many thanks for the update most interesting.

Referring to your picture of No frills funerals.

This reminds me of a situation a few years back in a town called Feltham in Surrey UK. Imagine a small industrial site set back from the main road (the A244) with a vehicle access to the back between two businesses the one on the left was a car repair shop the one on the right was a firm of Funeral Directors (which I think was the one as seen on Google earth today), at the side of the main road by the access road was a big sign saying BODY SHOP. Which business did it belong to? Your guess is as good as mine. I never had a camera (long before phones with cameras) with me whenever I passed by and the area has since been redeveloped.

This is true.

all the best,

Paddy

Looks like a fantastic road trip. The Moke seems to be coping well with the extreme heat.

Yes, I did drop the bundle on the rest of the trip over !

The last 2 days there was no let up in the oppressive heat, we had early morning and early stop overs to survive it !

A short stop and stretch at Murrayville, see the Tank relics. These I'm sure have been here since WWII !!!

gjxmAIU.jpg

Here I made the cover of our Club's Newsletter in 1985 - in the same Tank

Trying to find accommodation got a little tricky, but I knew a great spot - Australia's newest Race Track and the largest in the Southern Hemisphere

Before too much longer,,, we were in Adelaide and that part of this adventure is over
