I have a 1981 998 with a Motorola radio (not sure which one) and (thinking about upgrading to a CarPlay screen thingy) last time i looked inside I couldn’t see and obvious speakers are they hidden or built- in to the radio?

Anything is helpful

Usually pods mounted on rear parcel shelf or fitted under rear seat.

Originally there was a single mono radio speaker fitted by your Dealer centrally under the rear parcel shelf from inside the boot. Under the trim there are two large holes in the centre of the metal bulkhead shelf for an oval speaker attached by 4 screws/nuts. A grille would then be fitted over a suitable hole cut in the trim.

Later Minis had two extra speaker cut-out holes at each end of the rear parcel shelf for fitting aftermarket stereo speakers!
