Hi,

I was looking at some second hand CAM6232 cranks and saw the centre main journals on each of them had two entry points at the same location with some overlap (it looked almost as if it had been redrilled). There were two cranks and both had this same feature (so I’m expecting they left the factory like that). It looked as though each hole led down a different web of the crank. I would have expected to see a neat looking single hole which led down two separate pathways.

I have never noticed this before on other cranks. Is this normal?

Unfortunately I didn’t take any pictures.

mine's the same, so i'd say that's normal

the cranks were mass produced, so not surprising the two drillings to No.2 & No.3 big end journal don't start at exactly the same point (..on paper they probably did)

The Oil Way Drillings are done from the Big Ends so some wandering is inevitable. As long as there's a chamfer around the holes, I wouldn't worry about them.

Thank you.

Would you say these cranks would be as suitable as those with the holes aligned on the centre main journal for modifications enabling high revs?

Yes

The groove in the shell bearing allows lubrication to spread, throughout the crank's rotation
