I have read some thread where others also ask but I am not clear how the clips are placed on the door.

Thanks in advance!

it is a few years since I last did this, but from memory I did it like this.
You want the join in the seal in the middle at the bottom of the finished boot lid. I inserted a clip in the channel on the inner part of the seal, then pushed the spring clip part into the relevant hole in the boot lid. the seal being held in place by both the clip and the back of the boot lid skin. then moved on to the next hole and inserted a clip in the rubber and pushed into its hole. I remember it being a bit fiddly but you do develop a knack as you progress around the boot. If all else fails you could buy the later type of seal that pushes onto the rain channel around the car on the boot aperture. Which is easier to fit. Good luck and take your time.

Pattern it up roughly so you can start actually securing it from the handle and get any stretching balanced between both sides. Long nose pliers may help to squeeze up the clips to get them started in the holes. Slacken the screws between the hinges & body to get the boot lid shut while the rubber moulds in to shape,

Cheers man! But it is really difficult.it is a few years since I last did this, but from memory I did it like this.

Thank you guy! Yes,I was watching tha video yesterday. But it wasn't enought to learn the technique to fit it. And yes, I've got the other rubber type in my old boot.I just wanted to fit this seal in my new boot. This boot lid coming with holes precisely for this function.Pattern it up roughly so you can start actually securing it from the handle and get any stretching balanced between both sides. bought my clips from Mini Spares and they fitted the holes in my boot lid fine.
The job isn't difficult just a bit fiddly and you need to be patient. It looks like that is a new boot lid still in ecoat, if so you don't want to start fitting the rubber until it is in paint

Are those the right clips, hole is ~1/4".

You're right Slidehammer, the bootlid is new. I won't put the rubber on until I paint it, but I wanted to know how to fit this kit; seal + clips. Thanks for your help!bought my clips from Mini Spares and they fitted the holes in my boot lid fine.

i went the other way and fitted later style to body. old seal traps water between seal and boot lid creating yet another rust trap

Exactly this. Unless you really want to keep the car original use the later type seal fitted to the body, no clips involved and no holes needing drilling. It's also easy to swap to the earlier seal at a later date if you really want to.

There is a third (possibly better?) option
Phoenix Trim (UK) sells a self adhesive boot seal that sticks to the boot (can be used on lids with or without the holes so no fiddly clips either way) and seems a bit softer so gives an easier boot shut and possibly better seal (to be reviewed after I've used one for a while)
I did fit a "standard" clip on one on my blue 1981 (in my profile pic thingy) and that was fine sealing, just fiddly to fit with the clips (probably why Rover went to the easy body fit version)
The one that fits to the body just seems very average in terms of sealing after its been used a while and it kind of "sets" - had a couple now on my 1992 as it was standard but going to go to the Phoenix one
