Right as some of you may know I have an MPI cooper.

Basically today I noticed the immobiliser light is having a bit of a fit when you try to switch it off.

Normaly when its on it flashes 1-2-3-4 and then when I press the smooth button to unlock it, it just switches off and doesn't flash.

Well today its being flashing as normal when 'on' but when I unlock it it goes:
1and2and3 (littlepause) 4and5and6 (littlepause) 7and8and9 .....if that makes any sense!! I did try to video it on my mobile, but it didn't come out very well.

The ignition works, so the immobilising bit does get switched off. Its just never done that combo of light flashes before.

It makes no difference if the alarm has been switched on or not.

I know I only did the clutch on the weekend (and so the ECU was disconnected) but all sensors were put back as normal, and the ECU too (obviously!!). BUT the random flashing has only started today. After the clutch change it was fine!!

I'm confuzzled. And am thinking I'll probably need to take it to Rover for them to plug it in to the diagnostic on it.

Just wondering if you lot and any bright ideas on the matter?
Any ideas how much a diagnostic check costs?

Cheers

Beck x

have u tried starting it with the alarm/immobiliser turned on?? ie leave the window open, set it all then put ur hand in and try starting it!!

if it starts then you have a problem otherwise if it all goes off nd the car wont start it would seem all is ok!! light flashing could be jsut a random!!

hmmm will try that. I've tried starting it when lights are flashing and when its in 'normal flash mode' nowt happens (which is what's meant to happen)

It acutally starts when its flashing randomly... ie after ive deactivated the immobiliser.

Who knows?! I have been told if I press the 'deactivation button' 5 times in a row it will kind of 'resynch' it all.

I have changed it! I'm not that blonde  Even used the spare fob... same happens.

Have tried the 5 disarm thing, but to no avail.

Had a mate look @ rover manual but he couldn't find anything, he is gonna have a closer look though.

I think I may be visiting the garage @ lunchtime!

£55 for Mrs T's Pug 306 for doing NOTHING > because they couldn't reproduce the starting probs it's having. (Yes, I have complained and yes, they have ignored me. So far. Ongoing.)

Also by the way when I changed the battery on the Pug the radio went totally blank and they said it was probably a fuse, but I'd checked that, so they said the unit is stuffed and will have to go back to the maker.

So if they start talking big money, get a second opinion!

Well I took it to the garage today to be sorted. It was a nonRover place, as I'd heard horror stories from the local miniman, anyhow...

they plugged it in, couldn't find anything... said sorry but they weren't quite sure and perhaps I would have to take it to Rover. "perhaps the alarm is on its way out love"

Didn't charge me anything, which is always good :errr:

But whatever they 'didn't ' do worked!! The alarm and immobiliser disables with one press of the disarm button and doesn't try to pretend to be a disco light!!

unless its a broken arm :'(

Even then you could give it a try, swap your tools on ebay for a surgical kit, how hard can it be, plenty of other similar models out there for spares lol

Maybe even modify with some performance parts, an arm powered by a jcb lift would be class, just don't pick ya noise :errr:)

Oh better make sure you don't get the male female connectors mixed up or you have starting issues.
