Hi,
I am having trouble fitting the HIF44 on my new engine, I can’t get it on the mounting studs because the base of the carb is hitting the cross member. I have been told to fit it to the manifold before putting it in the car. I do believe however that my engine is sitting too far back as the Maniflow LCB down pipe is almost touching the subframe. I have a adjustable to and bottom engine stabilisers. Is there a specific distance the engine should be set at from the cross member? Also what is the correct order for gaskets, vac take off, abutment plate etc? Pics to follow. Thanks

Carb always on the manifold first. Any Mini any carb.
when the HIF carb was introduced the engine mounts were moved forward 1/2” but all you needed to do with the old subframes was use an adjustable top mount to give the clearance.

Steady bar on the bell housing side loosened?
(Under the master cylinders )
Slightest bit of space always helps..

Was your car factory fitted with an HIF carb?
Pretty certain later cars had a different shape crossmember for carb clearance and engines were positioned 3/8' further forward in the subframe for clearance issues.

No this was a 1982 HLE 1000 with a HS4 however I have fitted a different Subframe which I believe was also an earlier non HIF versions (subject of another thread on here). I have an adjustable upper engine steady, just wanted to know how far I need to pull the engine forward and what the correct gap between the head and bulkhead should be?Was your car factory fitted with an HIF carb?
