I mentioned it earlier, but I'll bring it up again, IMO injection really is the way to go once you've gone for a 7/8port, its so much easier to deal with on an ongoing basis. plus with 3d mapable ignition you get a much nicer driving engine,

you can even get Weber look alike inlets with injectors in these days is you really want that look.

I don’t have either a 7 or 8 port, but just to comment on tuning - one of the biggest reasons to switch to injection is that getting a tuner that understands any type of carb is hard and getting harder. The number that will also carry a stock of parts (needles, jets, tubes etc..) will be smaller again. Injection is going to be much easier to find someone that knows what they’re doing.

Yep, i agree with that,

most of the time you can tune the fuel yourself if you've got a Wideband sensor fitted, or at least get it 90% of the way there and just do the full throttle stuff on the rollers, some systems will self tune to a degree. the ingition map you really need it on the rollers though.

In my experience there is no self tuning. The ignition needs at least knock sensing to do anything like self tuning. The fuel uses the wideband to get close to an AFR map which is populated how?Does it know that 13.4 is better than 13.6 at 1500rpm in top?.
Take self tuning as an aid to using yourself to tune.Timing is where the power and quick damage potential lies.
That said I would heartily recommend EFI,but do not be disallusioned when it does not work out of the box.Steve..

Been in touch with Webcon today who were very helpful and the answer is 3.
A bit like the hitchhikers guide that 😁
There are a couple of reasons why injection is not really viable in my case.
1. This is a midlife crisis build and Ive always had carbs.
2. The cost of ITB's plus ecu is more than the 8 port head which is a large chunk of my budget.
I can appreciate the comments regarding the plus points of injection, things do move on I know hence even your average shopping wagon is injected these days but its going to have to be carbs.
I realise carbs cant be "mapped" like injection but as long as I can go the 5 miles from my house to the start of the Yorkshire Dales where the taps can be opened jobs a good 'un 👍

fair points there,

to be honest when i did my injection system i really did build it all my self, so it kept the cost right down, Megasquirt ECU, 2nd hand throttle, home made manifold & loom etc  if you want bolt on it will get pricey.

I know you said you'll stick with carbs, but, just a word of warning. Unless Webcon have changed the way they work, and judging by their dealer list they haven't, steer clear of their ECU.

Trying to find people that can tune them is limited as they don't give out the software.

Nothing wrong with their components and hardware imo, but there are far better and cheaper ECU options available.
