E5 And E10 Fuel

Best Answer blackbelt1990 , 04 July 2023 - 06:54 PM

The original rubber fuel lines on the car are not suitable for E10 fuel. Using this fuel could corrode the hoses causing them to leak. You should upgrade the fuel lines to E10 resistant material. Go to the full post

Hi all,

My daughter has a 1988 Mini Designer with the original A+ 998cc engine running on unleaded petrol. She or should I say we put E5 petrol in her. Is it possible to run with E10

and if so what does one need to change so that no damage is done by the different make up of E10 petrol?

Regards Paddy

I'm putting E10 in my 1979 998cc (on which I put an unleaded head back in the day). It turns out most E10 doesn't contain much ethanol anyway (it's a *maximum* of 10% and ethanol is more expensive). The concerns are: ethanol absorbs water so fuel goes "stale" quicker if left for a long time; and it may damage fuel lines and things (but there are very few of these on the Mini and I've replaced most of mine recently anyway). YMMV but I'm going to give E10 a go.

I use E5, try to use the same brand fuel to lessen the amount of ethanol

Until September 2023, Esso 99 Synergy Supreme is ethanol free, in most parts of U.K.

My 1979 rubber fuel lines were not suitable for any fuel so I replaced them anyway :) They had gone completely hard and brittle and shattered when I took them off.
