Sorry for the possibly daft question but very new minis and learning to wrench on it.
So here goes
I have a 998 auto 1991 mini Mayfair
The engine starts fine and idles fine using the choke when cold and then same when warmed up without the choke however when the car has been sitting far a week or so when first starting to drive it it stutters/splutters under acceleration. After a couple of miles it’s fine and pulls well but until then it has no power
Any suggestions gratefully received!
Thanks
Paul

It might be a sticky piston in the SU carb.
Take photos as you work. Place a large rag under the carb, in case you drop anything.
1) Unscrew the thumb bolt, in the centre of the top of the carb and remove the damper. (probably black plastic)
2) Remove the top of the carb carefully, held by 3 screws. Don't let the spring fall down the back of the engine.
3) VERY carefully remove the piston upwards, with no sideways movement that might damage the needle. ( Invert it and let the oil drain safely somewhere ).
4) Wipe everything carefully, and with a little 'Vim' like cleaner, clean the inside of the top and then the circumference of the piston. Wipe away all traces of 'Vim'.
Lightly oil inside of the top and reassemble. 3 and 2.
At the top of the carb, replace the oil lost by the inversion, no thinner than "3in1", 10/40 is good, 20/50 is ok, and screw the damper, 1), back in.
Remove rag and wipe any excess oil.

I’ll give it a look tomorrow and see if that sorts it.
Cheers
