I have to travel a fair way to collect a Mini 1000.

I was wondering roughly how far they can go (real world mileage) on a full tank of petrol, on mostly motorways?

If you are not permitted to buy fuel 'en route', cheat, take a couple of spare cans.

When I had my Mini 1000 (1988 A-plus engine) with the 34 litre (9 gallon?) fuel tank I managed to get easy 350 miles on the motorway when driving at the same speed not that fast.

Thanks, i didn't know there was such a thing as a 9 litre tank.

I thought there were only 5.5 and 7.5 gallon tanks. Perhaps they came in later years?

Think there may be some calculation confusion here with US and imperial gallons?

34 litres = 7.5 Imperial or 9 US gallons (rounded)

Haha yes, for the UK it will be 7.5 gallons. In my experience the Mini drives around 55 mph the most economical at a constant speed.

Maybe it will blow up if the speed drops below 50 mph?

Carry a can anyway if you're even thinking of running a Mini fuel gauge close to empty. Especially one you're not familiar with.

I would use E5 petrol and if it hasn't been converted to run on unleaded, make sure you add lead addative.

I get around 40 to the gallon from mine - mainly driving locally

In 2008 I did the Riviera Run (in the blue mini in my profile pic)  - I filled up  in Newquay and got within five miles of my house (Northampton) before I jibbed out and filled up.

According to Google it is 273 miles.

However the engine is a "tuned" 1330 (unknown slightly lumpy cam) not a 998, and I was doing the legal speed limit (and a bit more sometimes!) so mostly 70mph(+) - if you were doing 60mph in a 998 I would expect similar or maybe a bit better (300 should be achievable I would think)
