I average around 30 mpg in my 1310cc '89 Mini (US gallons)

In 2008 I did the Riviera Run (in the blue mini in my profile pic)  - I filled up  in Newquay and got within five miles of my house (Northampton) before I jibbed out and filled up.

 

According to Google it is 273 miles.

 

However the engine is a "tuned" 1330 (unknown slightly lumpy cam) not a 998, and I was doing the legal speed limit (and a bit more sometimes!) so mostly 70mph(+) - if you were doing 60mph in a 998 I would expect similar or maybe a bit better (300 should be achievable I would think) 

273/7.5= 36.4mpg UK  (or 30.3mpg US so comparable)  - probably could improve that by keeping to its "optimum" speed (where it feels smoothest!) which is around 60mph

 

To be honest I do relatively few miles in any of the minis so I don't really worry too much about economy, it's more about the fun!
