Hoping someone can help
As said before - I have no experience at all with engines/mechanics but I’m learning however I have a problem at least I think I do

I have a 1991 mini with what I think is an HS4 SU carb (matching it up with diagrams on the net)
This morning when coming to start the car it wouldn’t fire up
The engine has spark and fuel
On inspection the carb jet head as seen in this drawing was extended out of the carb body and was free to push/pull in and out - this didn’t seem right to me - can anyone confirm this is at fault and possibly how to fix it please as when pushed and held in the car then starts fine.

Thanks for any help - it would be most appreciated!
Paul

Check your choke is still operating correctly (it should move the jet downwards when it is pulled out).

It sounds like the cam lever has become detached from the jet. There should be a small metal rod connecting the cam lever to the jet to lower and raise it when the choke is operated.

Thanks for that Mito - spor on - I can see where it should be - I’ve just used some wire for now to check all else is good and it fired up and then ran perfectly - thank you so much!

Mini spares usually have the majority of parts.

This might work if you have a non wax stat jet

This is a wax stat jet

It doesn't look like this part is generally sold separately so you may have to try getting one second hand from eBay or convert the waxstat jet to a pre-waxstat jet and use the kit above (assuming the kit is for a hs4 - mini spares should be able to confirm).

Depends how old your HS4 is but if it's the non Waxstat with the flat profile choke link it could just be missing a #6x5/8 screw to hold the link to the jet.

The Waxstat link is kit is available from Burlen.
