I went to look at a 10" wheeled Mini saloon with dry suspension, a few days ago.

The height from the top of the tyres to the wing lip was around 6 inches on all 4 corners.

The does not have HiLo's.

It may have been stored on axle stands under the body rather than the suspension in the past.

Could this be the cause?

How long ago have the rubber cones been fitted? it may need a bit more driving and settling in. If it hasn't moved since being jacked up it may just need moving about to settle down.

Thanks, would that take a day or longer?

I'm not sure if it is on the original cones or not.

It could also be the fact the trumpets are not sat correctly in the nylon cups. However once its been run around a bit do another height check and if it has not started to settle then it may pay you to have a further look to see if everything is seated correctly.

I assume extra washers have not been added between the trumpets and the knuckle joints which was a common method of raising ride height before Hi-Lo's appeared in the 1970's?

These are the factory washers to raise the suspension.
3.41mm thick. Suspension has a 3:1 ratio on front and 5:1 rear:-

I'm surprised at how little the seating needs to be out to result in a noticeable effect on ride height. As above check seating and whether cones are new. You do mention that all four corners affected so perhaps not a seating issue all the way round?

Maybe the later knuckles fitted introduced with a built in spacer to help 13 inch wheel clearance

The standard ride height of the Mini does catch people out. It is higher than people remember or think.

photos are good.

sports pack cars had the suspension raised more as well.

The correct height is a lot higher than most people run them but that does still sound a bit high. Nothing to worry about though, it can easily be fixed if there is anything wrong. It would be more of an issue if it was low.

This is approximately the correct height, officially there is no data for rubber cone suspension as it was not adjustable.

Apologies, I should have mentioned it is a 1979 Mini 1000

I don't have any larger images. Hopefully it is a bit bigger when it is clicked on.

An odd angle but may be better.

As Nick pointed out the original height was about like shown. After driving a lowered car for 20 years(I lowered it)last year I made it standard and wished I had done it 19years ago.Proper lowering involves pickup points and other black arts.Sill looks ok,car looks nice,Steve..

I'm not sure how this ended up in the SPi section.

Thank you all for your help.
