Any recommendation for a convex Overtaking type mirror which fits on a mk1 without drilling holes. All the ones I've seen have a flat mirror glass which is totally useless.

no; they're pretty solid.

 

the only issues i found were that the window catches needed a little bit of modifying for the bolts to go through and the nuts to tighten, and the mirror position has to be a compromise between window open and window closed.

 

the biggest issue I can see with this setup is the potential for the window to shatter if the door mirror is clipped hard enough....
