Evening all,

I've been out of the mini game for a while but now I'm back with another mini and loving driving again. Only thing is, the mini is missing some grunt so I looked into options. On my first mini I never got to the stage of fitting weber/EFi but always wanted the sound and now that there's a kit available with a supercharger and a 'weber' from the aforementioned mini garage, it seems like all the boxes are ticked. So I've done a bit of research and it seems the vmax kits are supplied with non weber dcoe carb. Has anybody got one of these kits? How does it go? And probably most importantly is the fuelling consistent?

I did do some searching on the forum only to see that most reviews and discussions happened a fair while back and it looks like the kits may have change/been fettled (for the better maybe?) by Stuart since then? So it would be good to hear any info from people who have been/are running them.

Thanks,

Andrew

I had one and never got it fueling right, I ended up selling it and going down the turbo route. There will no doubt be some who say they are great but you'll notice they often come up for sale which says a lot.

I have looked at these. My contribution is, if you live fairly close to Stuart and can fit the kit then get him to rolling road it for you, which I think he does as part of the package, then any fuelling difficulties would be down to him?

Thanks for the response Nail81. Was this fuelling issue around idle or just across the board?

Thanks IronmanG. There is a rolling road near me with a guy who specialises in webers so fingers crossed I would have that covered (if the carb was up to job that is).

It would over fuel on cruise and lean out on sudden acceleration i tried loads of combinations of jets and emulsion tubes. If you are close enough to get it set up by Stuart it may be a good option but personally I think turbo is a much better option for power.

The biggest issue is where the fuel is delivered vs the combustion chamber. Acceleration enrichment just isn't good enough. Either blow through supercharger or turbo is the best way to go.

Not had any problems with my kit dating from 2007 was setup by Stuart

It’s the 1st gen SU kit with a decompression plate and it took power from about 90 to 125 BHP still going strong today

Next time I will go blow through 7 port using my own manifolds but for the money off the shelf the VMAX kit is good value and works well

I seen quite a few kits come up for sale as well , also watching on YouTube there has been a couple who fitted them and then went a different route . I've been hoping to catch someone at the shows with one fitted to chat to but not had much luck, but saying that I have seen someone on Instagram who has driven one around Europe with a vmax supercharger fitted and they had no problems

Mel from LSMOC did IMM in hers. So drove to Italy from UK. No problem reported. Bit juicy but it would be since its effectively a bigger displacement engine?

Its fuel thirsty as its producing boost at cruise. With a turbo, it spools down (its always spinning though).

Which is why Stuart recommends a 2.7 fd to drop the revs I guess

He Andrew,

I am in Toronto, Canada and had the VMAX for the last two years and overall I would say a good experience. One thing I will say is - with no rolling road - the difficult part for me has and always will be fueling as it tends to change from time to time for whatever reason - once you nail it your good to go and as mentioned above, with a nearby rolling road you have experts handy to assist - best of luck!

I've been using a dual point (not MPI) fuel injection on my 1293cc with a vmax s/c kit. Its running an Emerald ECU and coil pack etc. Have it for around 8 years, not a single problem once set up on Stuarts rr. He has a new one that I think gives better accuracy etc. Mines is probably due a re-tune on the rr but its literally running perfectly, makes me laugh so much when I use it..!!! Not a daily but does get used hard when its out.

Hi Andrew,

I'm in the process of fitting an EFi that has already been fitted and then setup by Stuart.  I bought it as a full kit Charger, Emerald ECU and ancillaries. It's an expensive game if done properly, I'll be close to £5k and that's with some of the juicy bits I already have.
