Replacement Radio Suggestions

After a LOT of back and forth, I just renewed my plan on o2, SIM only, 15GB of data, unlimited calls and texts, for £7 a month. Bargain and I never use more than 8-10Gb a month anyway.
Also audio data is hardly anything compared to video.[/quote
You want to get a better deal, I was with Virgin until they transferred to o2, since then I get 40gb of data with a 4gb rollover to the next month making 44 gb, unlimited calls and text for £8.00 a month sim only.

To had thought to the discussion of DAB versus FM it reminds me of the one between Vinyl and CDs.
The purists say Vinyl produces much better in-depth sound quality and listening experience than digital reproduction ever has.
I can't comment as like Ethel I am tone deaf.

Honestly though sometimes it can be what some would call antisocial most of the time I just like having a good solid range of sound from 50hz all the way up, you get all the drum kicks, crystal clear nicely balanced bass notes, it doesn't have to rattle the dashboard off
Maybe I'm just making excuses for being a yob
Sadly for some reason you will have to hunt around looking if you want a radio that doesn't look like it was designed for a 12 year olds bedroom. They're all flashy bright colours and cheap nasty LCD displays. But if you Google retro car stereo head unit there are still one or two decent looking options out there

But then you're back to using your phone and looking for a better sim contract (and if you're in the lake district and you want music, whistle)

I'm perfectly happy with Capital Gold or Classic FM. Thanks for the suggestion. Don't need something to blast the sound out of the car the way some idiots do. Does that Pioneer have bright red lights on it when it's on?
It's adjustable in the settings
That's a lot of mucking about with the app, that isn't necessary in normal use. You can also do the same adjustments through the unit's own menus/controls
I do use the app, but often can't be bothered to connect it on short journeys. When I do it usually just stays on the "dashboard" screen where swiping up-down controls volume & side to side changes stations or tracks, much like steering wheel controls on a new fangled car.
There are masses of features (though the voice control is overwhelmed my noisy old truck), but it'll be fine if you only ever touch the preset buttons & volume knob.

You still need the FM aerial for FM signal they're two separate things or at least on mine they are

I’ve got 1990 Cooper, and I had to use this adapter to transition from old radio to new one, from ISO to DIN, unsure on your car, but could be the same

There's a fitting instruction pdf on the manufacturer's website. It did come with a pigtail, but I can't remember what was on the other end. Being a botcher & a tight wad my old shed was already converted to a choccy box screw strip. It will need a permanent live for its memory, but so has pretty much every radio since the steam age.
