I am replacing the right hand (O/S) A panel on my son's 1988 Mini Sky and am a bit puzzled by the fitment. Bought a new panel from Mini Spares but the vertical edge that runs along the door hinge plate is no where close to were it should be (see photos). I noticed the rusty one I removed had a narrow edge folded over and fixed to the hinge plate. On this new one there is far to much metal sticking out passed the hinge plate. All the other edges fit well. Any thoughts?

Ok thanks. It might have disappeared in a pile of rust! I think I'm going to temporally refit the door and see if it doesn't fowl the door. If it's ok I'll see what the bit is that's needed.

Thanks for this information. It looks like I need a R/H  A Post inner hinge panel MK3 on which is M-Machine part 13.14.03.04.

Interesting that the original production build has the edge nearest the door folded over!

The folded over part of the Mk3 on-wards A-panels is often where the rust starts, usually first noticed when the factory spot welds start to dimple and bulge as the rust expands inside the seam. Once the A-panel is replaced apply plenty of Waxoyl into the folded over seam to prevent it happening again...

Why is everyone saying there is a missing part ? I can't see a missing part.

Can we have a picture without the A panel in place ?

looking down the A pillar where you can see the bolt holes..

post-129386-0-69403200-1698745733.jpg

there's supposed to be a folded edge pointing towards the rear of the car that you fold the edge of the A panel over (a fold at the edge of the flitch panel)

without that there's nothing to hold the A panel on the car except a small weld at the top, and a small weld at the bottom (and obviously the front wing)

Hi Guys, Been looking at all the links and photos and can see what is missing (see my original photos). I'm struggling to determine the M-Machine panel part number. Thought it was 13.14.03..04 but it doesn't look right?

I would have thought it's the edge off of this bit you need https://www.minispar...px|Back to shop

or M-machine's equivalent if you prefer

it's a shame really because you're just going to be cutting the edge and welding it on not using the whole piece

I got a flitch panel just for one small piece and ended up using the rest of the panel cut up into pieces for various patches and fabriation of small parts

I just remembered someone asked about this in the past and I did some measurements

you could just weld a strip of .9mm down the edge and trim it to the right curve..

https://www.theminif...a-panel-flange/

although if you have the A panel already you could just trace the curve which would be easier

Here's another measurement I did previously for Victor...

At 100mm spacing to give a rough curve

yours might be more useful then.. assuming you measured to the edge of the A post which seems logical

mine was an arbitrary line which gives a nice accurate curve but was intended for someone who had the top half already in place and wasn't trying to create the whole thing from scratch

Both of our measurements seem to match up until the bottom bit, mine was measured from a new heritage inner wing, but I believe some people trim these back when fitting the A panel to allow more adjustment for door shut lines/clearance.
